Pyongyang, North Korea
People carry flags in front of statues of North Korea founder Kim Il Sung (L) and late leader Kim Jong Il during a military parade marking the 105th birth anniversary Kim Il Sung, in Pyongyang April 15, 2017. The men carrying flags are wearing North Korean university uniforms. The float containing the statues is often marks the start of a section of the parade led by people chosen to represent ordinary citizens, as opposed to soldiers or military equipment. Once the parade is over, and the float has completed its official function, a large white sheet is placed over each statue in order to preserve the “Supreme Dignity” of each figure as the float meanders its way back through the city amid normal traffic.
