Beef is put through a mincer at Lidgates butchers in west London February 13, 2013. In one of Britain's oldest butcher's shops, staff in straw hats are rushing to cope with a surge in demand for pricey pies and sausages from customers worried about a scandal over mislabelled horsemeat and rich enough to buy peace of mind. Founded in 1850, Lidgates in London's smart Notting Hill district retains a Dickensian atmosphere, displaying beef from grass-fed cows, organic chickens, and silver trophies won by its products. Ground Alberta beef is seen before packaging at Bon Ton Meat Market in Calgary, Alberta, October 3, 2012. Bon Ton stated it was not effected by the recent E.Coli outbreak as they get their meat from select smaller producers. E. coli, a strain of which can cause sickness or even death, is widely present in meat-processing plants, and regulators require packers to control the bacteria within certain levels. E.coli can be killed by thoroughly cooking meat. REUTERS/Todd Korol (CANADA - Tags: FOOD HEALTH)

However Austria, with its popular cheese-filled variation of the sausage known as Kaesekrainer, is opposing Slovenia's bid. The EU commission has applied to the patenting office on behalf of Slovenia to claim exclusive name rights to the sausage. Kaesekrainer sausages are pictured during production at Wiesbauer factory in Vienna, April 26, 2012. Slovenia has made a bid for the minced pork sausage Kranjska Klobasa (Krainer Sausage), which originated in Northern Slovenia during the 19th century, to be given protected EU status. However Austria, with its popular cheese-filled variation of the sausage known as Kaesekrainer, is opposing Slovenia's bid. The EU commission has applied to the patenting office on behalf of Slovenia to claim exclusive name rights to the sausage. If it is approved, sausage stands around Austria will no longer be able to sell products as "Krainer" or "Kaesekrainer". REUTERS/Heinz-Peter Bader (AUSTRIA - Tags: POLITICS FOOD SOCIETY)

Ground beef is separated into one pound cuts as it makes its way down a conveyor belt to be packaged at the Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market meat processing facility in Riverside, California March 29, 2012. U.S. meat packers' losses on beef sales have doubled since a controversy over ammonia-treated scraps dubbed "pink slime" exploded two weeks ago, with margins nearing their lowest in at least 22 years on Thursday, an industry estimate showed. Fresh & Easy says they do not use the ammonia-treated filler in their beef products. REUTERS/Alex Gallardo (UNITED STATES - Tags: FOOD ANIMALS BUSINESS)

Rio de Janeiro state's Environment Secretary Carlos Minc speaks during a news conference to the foreign media, as he discusses the oil leak around Chevron's deep-sea well, in Rio de Janeiro March 21, 2012. The discovery of a new seep in the Frade field this month has led to allegations by a Brazilian federal prosecutor that Chevron's drilling has led to dangerous faults in the undersea oil reservoir at Frade, which could be irreparably damaged and may eventually leak much more oil. Chevron, its drilling contractor Transocean and several of the two companies' employees are expected to face criminal charges on Wednesday for alleged environmental crimes related to the November spill, which spilled at least 2,400 barrels.
