Tiger Woods wipes his face on the first green as his problems continued
during the first round of the 85th PGA Championship at the Oak Hill Country
Club outside Rochester, New York, August 14, 2003. He struggled to an
opening round four-over 74, well behind the leaders. While Woods counts four
tournament wins in 13 starts this season, he has had no success at the
majors and that trend continued at Oak Hill in the fourth and final major of
the year. Pictures of the month August 2003 REUTERS/John Sommers II

ARCHAEOLOGISTS PUZZLED BY LOCATION OF MAYAN GRAVE SITE.
Fernando Lopez discusses the burial site of an ancient Mayan governor in the Copan Ruins, in Honduras. The burial ground was discovered by Seiichi Nakamura, head Archaeologist at Copan, in August 2000. Nakamura and other archaeologist are mystified by the location of the site, almost a mile from the Acropolis, which possibly suggests the grave was moved. The site yielded the remains of 38 mayans as well as several important artifacts and continues to produce findings. Picture taken May 26, 2001.

NASA PHOTOGRAPH OF GAMMA RAY BURST.
U.S. and European scientists said on January 26 that they had caught their first ever "live" picture of a gamma-ray burst - powerful explosions from space that have mystified and intrigued astronomers for decades. An orbiting detector caught the burst on January 23 and, within seconds, signaled a computer that in turn woke up an observatory computer in New Mexico and caught the explosion on film, said John Horack, a NASA spokesman. A red and blue flash of light called a Red Sprite, is shown extending upward from an electrical thunderstorm in this NASA photograph.

Astronomers said on May 6 they were mystified by an enormous burst of gamma-ray energy they had seen from the far reaches of the universe, and said it must have come from the biggest explosion ever. It far eclipses a supernova -- the explosion of a dying star -- and is second only to the Big Bang in energy, they said. The gamma-ray explosion came from a faint galaxy known as GRB 971214, about 12 billion light-years from Earth. This image released May 6 shows the GRB 971214 field, obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope about four months after the burst, well after the afterglow has faded away. The extremely faint and distant galaxy (marked with an arrow) is the host galaxy of the gamma-ray burst. It was discovered earlier using the Keck 10-m telescope, but it is shown here as seen with a superior sharpness of the HST.

Copy of a letter released by the White House on March 16 written by Kathleen Willey to President Clinton. The letter, dated November 22, 1993, one week prior to the date she alleges the president made unwanted sexual advances toward her, congratulates him for unidentified successes and asks for a few minutes of his time to discuss something of importance to her. The White House released a number of letters dated from May 3, 1993, to November 13, 1996, accompanied by Clinton's responses, to demonstrate a basis for his response to her accusations against him. The records also help provide some context for why the president expressed that he was mystified by the turn of events.
