Mikhail Demchenko, 58, a father of three adult children who live in another city, rides his mare named Docha while sitting in a self-made traditional wooden sledge on his way to Taiga forest to gather fire wood for furnace in Verkhnyaya Biryusa village, near the Russian Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, February 16, 2015. The village was founded in the Soviet Union era as a forest settlement with a logging enterprise, which was the main employer for local residents. The business, which is much smaller nowadays, provides few working positions, while most of younger generation have already left the settlement inhabited by several dozen people.
