Reuters photographs showed streets packed with Aleppo residents carrying large packs as they fled the home-made barrel bombs - oil drums or cylinders packed with explosives and metal fragments. Barrel bombs, cheap and easy to construct and usually dropped from helicopters, often kill dozens at a time. Chemical materials and gas masks are pictured in a warehouse at the front line of clashes between opposition fighters and government forces, during a guided tour by the Syrian Army in the Damascus suburb of Jobar August 24, 2013. Syrian state television said soldiers found chemical materials on Saturday in tunnels that had been used by rebels, rejecting blame for a nerve gas attack that killed hundreds this week and heightened Western calls for foreign intervention. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry (C) sits with U.S. Ambassador to France Charles Rivkin (R) and U.S. Special Envoy for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations Martin Indyk (L) at Les Tuilleries park in Paris September 8, 2013. The United States said on Sunday it did not rule out returning to the U.N. Security Council to secure a Syria resolution once U.N. inspectors complete a report on a chemical weapons attack, but indicated Arab countries were seeking a tough response. Speaking at a news conference in Paris after meeting key Arab foreign ministers, Kerry said they were leaning towards supporting a G20 statement - already signed by 12 countries - that called for a strong international response following an Aug. 21 chemical attack in Syria. People stand on a street lined with damaged buildings in the besieged area of Homs January 27, 2014. The United States on Monday demanded that Syria allow aid into the "starving" city of Homs, as talks aimed at ending three years of civil war hit more trouble over the future of President Bashar al-Assad. The Syrian government said women and children could leave the besieged city and that rebels should hand over the names of the men who would remain. A U.S. State Department spokesman said an evacuation was not an alternative to immediate aid. REUTERS/Yazan Homsy (SYRIA - Tags: POLITICS CIVIL UNREST CONFLICT)
