Ahmad, the son of Lebanon's Hezbollah commander Mohamad Issa, known as Abu Issa, rides a vehicle as he carries his father's rifle during his funeral in Arab-Salim, south Lebanon January 20, 2015. U.N. peacekeepers stationed in the Golan Heights along the Syrian-Israeli border observed drones coming from the Israeli side before and after an airstrike that killed several top Hezbollah figures, the U.N. said Monday. Sunday's strike hit a convoy carrying commander Mohamad Issa, known as Abu Issa, in Quneitra, near Golan Heights, a Hezbollah statement said. An Iranian general killed in the Israeli air strike in Syria was not its intended target and Israel believed it was attacking only low-ranking guerrillas, a senior security source said on Tuesday. The remarks by the Israeli source, who declined to be identified because Israel has not officially confirmed it carried out the strike, appeared aimed at containing any escalation with Iran or the Lebanese Hezbollah guerrilla group.

Devotees offer prayers before taking a holy bath during the Swasthani Brata Katha festival in Kathmandu January 20, 2015. During the month-long festival, devotees recite one chapter of a Hindu tale daily from the 31-chapter sacred Swasthani Brata Katha book that is dedicated to God Madhavnarayan and Goddess Swasthani, alongside various other gods and goddesses and the miraculous feats performed by them. The devotees also go on pilgrimages to various temples, perform religious rituals, take a holy bath in the rivers and fast for a month, especially among women who believe fasting helps in their family's well-being or in getting them a good husband. Ceremonies to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the camp will take place on January 27, with some 300 former Auschwitz prisoners taking part in the commemoration event. The Germans built the Auschwitz camp in 1940 as a place of incarceration for the Poles. From 1942, it became the largest site of extermination of the Jews from Europe. In Auschwitz, the Nazi Germans killed at least 1.1 million people, mainly Jews, but also Poles, Roma, Soviet prisoners of war and prisoners of other ethnicities. A Palestinian man, hoping to cross into Egypt, climbs a gate as he waits with others at the Rafah crossing between Egypt and the southern Gaza Strip January 20, 2015. Egyptian authorities opened Rafah crossing, Gaza's main window to the outside world, on Tuesday for three days, officials said. Egypt shut the crossing over violence with Islamist militants in Egypt's adjacent Sinai region last October. Since then, it opened the crossing partially and on a few occasions to allow thousands of Palestinians to travel in and out of Gaza Strip. Yatseniuk spoke after a surge in violence in Ukraine's eastern territories where government forces are fighting Russian-backed separatists, including clashes on Tuesday which Kiev says followed attacks by Russian regular troops. Snorkelers interact with a Florida Manatee inside of the Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Florida January 15, 2015. On winter days, Florida manatees flock by the hundreds to the balmy waters of Three Sisters Springs, drawing crowds of snorkelers and kayakers to the U.S. sanctuary, where people may swim with the endangered species. But as tolerant as the gentle, whiskered sea giants can be of the accidental kicks and splashes of delighted tourists, wild life regulators want to ban most canoes and paddle boards and create people-free zones to protect the wintering "sea cow." Proposed limitations for this winter are awaiting approval by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Picture taken January 15, 2015.
