A memorial for Brian McKinney is seen at the site where his body was discovered in 1999 at Colgagh bog, Inniskeen, November 4, 2014. McKinney disappeared on the May 25, 1978, aged 22. His body was located on June 29, 1999 at Colgagh bog, Inniskeen. The IRA admitted killing 13 of the 16 classified as "disappeared" in the 1970s and 80s, mostly Catholics accused of collaborating with British forces, while the Irish National Liberation Army admitted one. No one has taken responsibility for the other two, or two more who went missing after 1998. Several of the bodies have never been found and, like for the vast majority of the victims of Northern Ireland's "Troubles", none of the crimes have been solved and the perpetrators remain unpunished. The families of the Disappeared are frustrated that Northern Ireland appears so reluctant to investigate its past. A protester pauses during a march against police violence in New York, December 7, 2014. Protesters in New York and other cities staged a fifth night of rallies on Sunday, denouncing use of deadly force by police against minorities. Ami Denborg (C), sister of Anni Dewani, leaves a court with family members in Cape Town December 8, 2014. The South African court cleared Shrien Dewani on Monday of charges that he paid hitmen to kill his wife while they were on honeymoon in Cape Town four years ago. State prosecutors had argued that Dewani paid 15,000 rand ($1,300) in a plot with taxi driver Zola Tongo and others to kidnap and murder his wife, Anni, in November 2010, charges he has consistently denied.

At least 21 people were reported dead, many of them drowned as flood waters rose in Borongan, the main town in Eastern Samar, where typhoon Hagupit made first landfall, the Philippine National Red Cross said on Monday. The Philippines had evacuated more than a million people as the powerful typhoon approached the country from the Pacific, fearing a repeat of a super storm last year that left more than 7,000 dead or missing. Police say Rumain Brisbon, 34, was killed on December 2 as he struggled with a policeman who suspected he was selling drugs and erroneously believed he felt the handle of a gun in the man's pocket. Brisbon was actually carrying a pill bottle, and an attorney for his mother said accounts from witnesses did not tally with the police version. A boy pushes a donkey cart loaded with bundles of cotton blooms that were collected by women cotton pickers in Meeran Pur village, north of Karachi September 25, 2014. Women make up the bulk of Pakistan's half a million cotton producers, but labour rights activists say they are often exploited by overseers, who often withhold their wages and may subject some of them to sexual harassment. Many women work in Pakistan's cotton fields for less than $2 a day. Last year, a group of around 40 women decided their low wages could no longer cover food and clothing for their families so they did something almost unheard for poor working women in rural Pakistan - they went on strike.
