Yusuf Kagwa, 45, who suffered severe jigger infestation, poses for a picture to show the jigger scars in his feet at his home in Buyende district, eastern Uganda August 5, 2015 after being discharged from the Sole Hope medical centre. Left untreated, jigger parasites can lead to secondary infections that can be fatal. The problem of jiggers, female sand fleas that burrow their way under skin, is widespread in the eastern, northern and northeastern parts of Uganda. NGO Sole Hope works with local and international volunteers to treat sufferers, removing the parasites either with safety pins or razor blades. Kagwa, a farmer, was infested and had the parasite all over his body. Volunteers counted 2,555 parasite burrow marks before he received treatment. An African migrant carries belongings after being released from Holot detention centre in Israel's southern Negev desert August 25, 2015. Israel on Tuesday began releasing some 1,200 African migrants whom it has interned for more than a year in the detention centre. Under the terms of their release, they are banned from living or working in Tel Aviv and the southern resort city of Eilat, which both have large migrant communities. Two weeks ago, Israel’s Supreme Court reduced from 20 months to 12 months the period of time illegal migrants could be held in custody pending the outcome of their requests for asylum. An estimated 47,000 African migrants live in Israel, and many of them are seeking asylum. Israel has recognized only a handful of such claims. REUTERS/Amir Cohen TPX IMAGES OF THE DAY
