An Egyptian farmer squats down on cracked soil to show the dryness of the land due to drought in a farm formerly irrigated by the river Nile, in Al-Dakahlya, about 120 km (75 miles) from Cairo June 4, 2013. Ethiopia has not thought hard enough about the impact of its ambitious dam project along the Nile, Egypt said on Sunday, underlining how countries down stream are concerned about its impact on water supplies. The Egyptian presidency was citing the findings of a report put together by a panel of experts from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia on the impact of the plan to build a $4.7 billion hydroelectric dam. Ethiopia triggered deep concern in Egypt last week when it began work to divert the river as part of the project. Egypt depends on the Nile for nearly all its water. Scavengers search for recyclable materials to be sold to recycling centres, at the Nam Son garbage dump, north of Hanoi June 4, 2013. Close to 800 people collect recyclable materials from the dump site from three to seven every morning, when working conditions are deemed safer after garbage trucks have been dispatched to collect waste from the city. Most earn 80,000 to 100,000 Vietnamese dong ($4 to $5) a day, in exchange for more than 10 tonnes of recyclables salvaged. Established since 1999, the 83-hectare yard which takes in close to 4,200 tonnes of garbage daily, is nearing 90 percent of its capacity. Should there be no expansion, the facility will have to close in 2014, deputy manager To Ha told reporters. REUTERS/Kham (VIETNAM - Tags: SOCIETY ENVIRONMENT BUSINESS EMPLOYMENT)

David Brockwell walks between wind turbines during a routine inspection at the Infigen Energy wind farm located on the hills surrounding Lake George, 50 km north of the Australian capital city of Canberra May 13, 2013. Infigen Energy's Capital Windfarm, built five years ago, was a vanguard for wind power as Australia sought to wean itself from cheap fossil-fuel power in the face of climate shift blamed in part for Lake George's transformation to a vast plain. But big plans to expand the Infigen renewable energy project near Canberra and others like it have been put on hold awaiting the outcome of an election in September. The ballot, which opinion polls show the opposition conservatives winning, along with an economic slowdown and rising home energy bills have put the brakes on Australia's decade-long clean energy push. At stake in the Sept. 14 vote is a controversial carbon trading scheme championed by ruling Labor to curb greenhouse gas emissions, with a $20 billion pipeline in renewable investment largely on hold as nervous companies sit on their hands.
