Fires rage across Australia
Wildfires have ravaged more than 27 million acres of land across the country, nearly half the area of the United Kingdom, following a three-year drought that has left much of the country's bushland vulnerable to blazes.

Fifth-generation dairy farmer Tim Salway, who lost his father Robert and brother Patrick in the bushfires, is seen at his farm in Wandella, near Cobargo, Australia January 13, 2020. The scale of the recovery facing the fifth-generation farmer is huge. Destroyed machinery, felled trees and blackened farmland were surrounded by miles of damaged fencing on Salway's farm. Metal tanks were melted and hay and cattle sheds worth tens of thousands of dollars were flattened. Salway lost 170 cows, including one that was so badly burned that it had to be shot.
