Reigning Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) world junior champion, Joel Parkinson from Coolangatta, Queensland, continues his assault on the world's top ASP surfers by advancing directly to round three of the Billabong Pro 2000 at Burleigh Heads Queensland, March. Parkinson, who recently won the O'Neill Cold Water Classic in Santa Cruz, California sidelined fellow Australian Matt Hoy (Newcastle) and Brazilian Victor Ribas to the losers rounds. Parkinson, 18, who is seeded into the event as a wildcard, won the Billabong Pro at Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa, last year when he was also a wild card entrant. The US$135,600 Billabong Pro is the first of 14 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) events for the new millennium featuring the ASP top 44.
