Heidi, 27, cleans and inflates cow guts which will be used for sausages as her daughter stands behind her, in the "Cholojeros" zone next to the railway lines at Zona 18, in Guatemala City, May 7, 2014. Most of the beef consumed in the city is produced in the Cholojeros zone, according to the Ministry of Agriculture Livestock and Food (MAGA) of Guatemala. The long-standing area got its name from the word "cholojo", which means animal intestines in Guatemala. Heidi has worked in the establishment for 15 years. Picture taken May 7, 2014. Lu Libing touches the belly of his pregnant wife, Mu, as they pose for pictures during an interview with Reuters at their home in Ganzhou, Jiangxi province March 13, 2014. Lu knew he had only one choice as the birth of his third child approached. He couldn't afford hefty fines that would be meted out by Chinese authorities, so he put the unborn child up for adoption. On the Internet he found "A Home Where Dreams Come True", a website touted as China's biggest online adoption forum, part of an industry that has been largely unregulated for years. Demand for such websites has been fuelled by rural poverty, China's one-child policy, limiting most couples of only one child, and desperate, childless couples. Gynaecologist Nayana Patel, carries out an ultrasound examination on Renuka, 23, a surrogate mother, at the Akanksha IVF centre in Anand town, about 70 km (44 miles) south of the western Indian city of Ahmedabad August 24, 2013. India is a leading centre for surrogate motherhood, partly due to Hinduism's acceptance of the concept. The world's second test tube baby was born in Kolkata only two months after Louise Brown in 1978. Rising demand from abroad for Indian surrogate mothers has turned "surrogacy tourism" there into a billion dollar industry, according to a report by the Law Commission of India. Alberto Acosta tests his new prosthetic leg at the Center of Advanced Prosthetics in San Jose February 11, 2013. Dino Cozzarelli, an Ecuadorian orthotist and prosthetist living in Costa Rica, is attempting to introduce affordable prosthetic limbs for patients by purchasing prosthesis used previously in the U.S. and Europe and modifying them to fit their new wearers. For instance, a new bionic knee costs an average of $20,000 while a used one purchased and fitted with new sockets would cost patients only a quarter of its price. According to Cozzarelli, modifying plastic prosthesis is a better option for patients using free wooden prosthesis funded by the state's social security system, which are heavier and of lower quality than plastic ones. A boy evacuated from Sinlaj village is given a routine medical check by a doctor at the Mariscal Gregorio Solares military base in Huehuetenango, about 150 miles (240 km) northwest of Guatemala City September 29, 2012. The military evacuated 44 villagers on September 26 from Sinlaj village, located near the border with Mexico, after they were threatened by the Zetas drug cartel for not assisting in drug trafficking, according to Ronald Vasquez, the base's third commander who was in charge of the operation. The base is currently sheltering 29 villagers as it does not have the capacity to hold more people, with the other 15 being sheltered elsewhere, according to Vasquez. Zoo personnel sit beside Fafa, a lioness that is nearly 18-year-old, as it lies in a cage after it is sedated to transport it to a veterinary clinic for a health check after it experienced seizures and bleeding in Brasilia August 7, 2012. Fafa has been living in Brasilia Zoo since its birth and had undergone surgery this year to remove both its ovaries and uterus. According to veterinarian John Nardott Ricardo, the lioness had to undergo a 3-hour-long session of CT scans to its chest, skull and abdomen in order to diagnose the source of its health problems. Nardott believes there is a possibility that Fafa has liver damage, which may have arisen from a cancerous tumour Fafa had in 2010. REUTERS/Ueslei Marcelino (BRAZIL - Tags: ANIMALS SOCIETY)
