Pigs and a water buffalo are brought to higher ground in Sta Rosa, Nueva Ecija in northern Philippines October 19, 2015 after it was hit by Typhoon Koppu. The typhoon swept across the northern Philippines killing at least nine people as trees, power lines and walls were toppled and flood waters spread far from riverbeds, but tens of thousands of people were evacuated in time. Officials fear the death toll may rise after Typhoon Koppu tore through the main island of Luzon on Sunday leaving several remote towns and villages isolated due to flash floods and toppled trees and boulders blocking roads. A pig and her piglets stay on higher ground after being rescued, in Sta Rosa, Nueva Ecija in northern Philippines, October 19, 2015, after it was hit by Typhoon Koppu. Powerful typhoon Koppu ploughed into the northeastern Philippines before dawn on Sunday destroying homes and displacing 10,000 people and whipping up coastal surges four meters (12 feet) high, disaster agency officials said. There were no reports of casualties after the category four typhoon, with central destructive winds of 175 kph (109 mph), making landfall near the town of Casiguran in the Aurora province. Piglets play in a piggery at village near Warsaw April 10, 2014. Poland has asked the European Union to intervene in a spat over Russia banning imports of Polish pork and says that the case could be taken up by the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Piglets drink from the teat of their mother at a pig farming in Lamballe, central Brittany, November 5, 2013. France's aim to shift nearly one billion euros in European subsidies to help struggling livestock farmers could be stymied by a crisis in the meat processing sector faced with a wave of plant closures in Brittany, leaving more room to competitors. France is the European Union's leader in poultry output and third for pork, with the country's western part hosting the bulk of farmers and industry players, initially attracted by easy access to ports to import feed and boost exports. France is now losing its pole position as Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium gain market shares, even within France itself, by using more efficient tools and often cheaper labour. A Xavante Indian holds a piglet at Maraiwatsede tribe in Mato Grosso, about 375 miles (600 km) northwest of Brasilia, February 4, 2013. More than 100 years after the United States mostly finished carving out its Indian reservations, Brazil is among a handful of countries in the Americas, including Colombia and Panama, that are still setting land aside. But the Rousseff government has gone a step further by evicting non-Indians from indigenous territory. Picture taken February 4, 2013.
