Libya reportedly paid millions of dollars to free the hostages through the International Gaddafi Foundation and its president Saif Al Islam. The former hostages were kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf, a Muslim rebel group, from a Malaysian diving resort on April 23. Four Westerners and 12 Filipinos are still held in the jungle on a remote Philippine island.
