Senior members of Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives warned on Monday that heavy losses in weekend regional votes were a wake up call one month before the German election and called for a more aggressive campaign. On Sunday, Merkel's conservatives suffered a double blow when support slumped by more than 10 points for her CDU in two states -- Saarland, on the French border, and Thuringia, in the former communist east.
