A man enters the Austrian auction house Dorotheum in Vienna
A man enters the Austrian auction house Dorotheum in Vienna April 28, 2014. A riding hat believed to have been worn by Austro-Hungarian Empress Elisabeth, called "Sisi" by family and friends, fetched 134,500 euros ($186,500) at the Vienna auction, more than 50 times higher than expected. Elisabeth was the wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I, a selection of whose personal items were also highly sought-after at Wednesday's sale of imperial memorabilia. The auction at Austria's Dorotheum took place as Vienna prepares to mark 100 years since the June 28, 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, which lit the fuse for World War One. A view of the great dancing hall inside the Stadtpalais Liechtenstein in Vienna May 2, 2013. The princely palace that launched a revival of Rococo in the mid 19th century, will offer public tours for the first time on Friday after an extensive face-lift. The city palace was once the main residence of the princely family of Liechtenstein, at the time one of Vienna's richest families considered to be at the cutting edge of art and architecture, before their relocation to the tiny Alpine principality. Its four-year, 100 million euro ($130 million) revamp returns the private structure to its prewar glory and opulence, with plastered ceilings, extensive gold leafing, and the original Thonet wood floors.
