A nurse takes care of an AIDS patient at the Glory Hut Foundation in Chonburi province, east of Bangkok January 20, 2015. In mid-December, villagers in Lang Nern, a few kilometres outside the seaside resort of Pattaya, voted to evict the Glory Hut Foundation, a small HIV/AIDS hospice. Villagers say that Glory Hut did not consult them before setting up the centre, the presence of people living with HIV/AIDs hurts their businesses and they fear catching opportunistic diseases. There is no legal backing for the eviction vote, but the hospice may move after being socially ostracised. In a country that has been at the forefront of the fight against HIV/AIDS, incidents such as this underline the stigma and discrimination that people still face. Picture taken January 20. The world has finally reached "the beginning of the end" of the AIDS pandemic that has infected and killed millions in the past 30 years, according to a leading campaign group fighting HIV. United Nations data show that in 2013, 35 million people were living with HIV, 2.1 million people were newly infected with the virus and some 1.5 million people died of AIDS. Marialena, a 42-year-old homeless AIDS sufferer and former drug addict who is on a methadone rehabilitation program, pushes away her boyfriend Dimitrios who is trying to clean up her self-inflicted wounds, under a bridge in central Athens May 15, 2013. Dimitrios, 51, was a dancer for a famous Greek folk dancing troupe until he lost his job three years ago and became homeless. Since the debt crisis erupted in 2009, hundreds of thousands of Greeks have lost their jobs and the unemployment rate in the country reached 26.8 percent in March, new figures show.
