Australian dog racer Graeme Hall is pulled around a 3.9 kilometre (2.4 mile) track by two Alaskan malamutes in the inaugural Canberra Sled Dog Classic in a pine forest outside Australia's capital, August 24. More than 150 competitors from around the country took part in a series of races over distances of up 12 kilometres (7.5 miles), with two or four dog teams pulling racers on scooters or sleds fitted with wheels. The sport, which originated in snow capped Canada, is rapidly becoming a popular sport in Australia, despite a the lack of snow in the dry, hot country, according to the event's organisers.
