They are doing it on the rooftops, on tower block balconies and even on a disused railway: Swedes have discovered a passion for urban gardening as a way of growing fresh food and getting back in touch with nature. Part of a global movement, an increasing number of Swedish city-dwellers are growing their own in window boxes and allotments or are visiting public gardens built in or on industrial or office spaces. Kenya's government threatened to close the Dadaab refugee camp, which with about 350,000 Somali refugees is the world's biggest refugee camp, as a security risk. The United Nations refugee agency urged Kenya to reconsider an order to close the teeming Dadaab refugee camp, warning that sending Somali refugees back to their homeland would have "extreme humanitarian and practical consequences". Roads can be seen intersecting drought-affected farming areas located in south-eastern Australia
Roads can be seen intersecting drought-affected farming areas located in south-eastern Australia March 21, 2015. A report titled 'Thirsty Country: Climate change and drought in Australia' by the Australian research body the Climate Council, has argued in its latest paper that the probability of drought will increase, and it will become more severe, because of climate change. The crowdfunded body claimed that since the mid-1990s rainfall in southeast Australia had declined between 15 and 20 per cent, and due to a warming climate, rain across southern Australia had "shifted" further south increasing the risk of drought in south-east and south-west Australia. A woman washes a pot as she spends time at one of city allotments in Warsaw July 22, 2012. Warsaw is home to dozens allotment gardens carved out by the country's previous rulers so that workers could relax in their spare time by tending flowers and shrubs on their personal plots. Two decades after Poland threw off Communist rule, this relic of a more sedate past is colliding with a modern reality: the appetite of the market for space to build new apartment blocks, offices and retail parks. A makeshift residence for the homeless is seen at the allotment gardens in Warsaw, February 24, 2011. Severe frost has already killed 30 people in Poland in February bringing the total death toll to above 200 this winter, police said on Thursday. Uniformed services were patrolling allotment gardens and other popular locations distributing warm meals and urging homeless people to move to public dormitories as temperatures dipped to 20 Celsius degrees below zero at nights.
