A NOAA close-up satellite image shows dangerous Hurricane Frances taken at 0945EDT (1345GMT) on August 31, 2004, as it passes north of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Island and the Northern Leeward Islands. Hurricane Frances roared toward the Bahamas and the U.S. East Coast with 140-mph (227 kph) winds. Frances' sustained winds climbed from 125 mph (200 kph) to 140 mph (227 kph) as the dangerous storm brushed by Antigua, Anguilla and other small islands of the northeast Caribbean. The storm regained 4 status, the second-highest level on the scale of hurricane intensity. Frances' projected path would take it north of the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, on to the Bahamas, and ashore somewhere between South Florida and the Carolinas on Saturday. But forecasters caution that long-range projections have a wide margin of error. ??? USE ONLY
