DEFENSE SECRETARY WILLIAM COHEN SPEAKS ON USS WASHINGTON
United States Defense Secretary William Cohen addressing some 2,000 crew in the hanger bay of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington February 11. Cohen praised the sailors skills, courage and dedication but again stressed the need for military force if Iraq does not concede to diplomatic pressure concerning its weapons of mass destruction. The military forces in the Gulf and elsewhere are now operating under the name "Desert Thunder". Cohen said he is satisfied that all the Gulf states will be "solidly behind the US and our other allies if it comes to carrying out a military operation".
