A devotee takes a holy dip before a submerged stone idol of Hindu monkey god
Hanuman, on the banks of the swollen Godavari river, at Nasik town, 180 kms
(112.5 miles) north-east of Bombay July 29, 2003. Incessant rains over the
past three days have flooded several low-lying areas of Nasik where on
Wednesday hundreds of thousands of Hindu devotees are scheduled to
participate in the month-long Kumbh Mela (Sacred Hindu Pilgrimage). The
Kumbh Mela occurs four times every twelve years at four different river bank
