Thirty two people evacuated their island home of Montserrat to escape the volcanic activity which has destroyed most of the island. Montserrat's volcano in the Soufriere hills in the south of the island began hurling out rocks and ash in July 1995, after being dormant for 400 years. 

Carodella Galloway from Salem, Montserrat, waits for her luggage to be examined by an Antiguan customs officer after arriving August 20 in St. Johns. Galloway was one of 32 people that evacuated their island home of Montserrat to escape the volcanic activity which has destroyed most of the island.
