Twenty-nine year old Raymond Lau, screams in pain as he under goes painful traditional massage therapy at the island of Puala Ubin, about a kilometre east of Singapore. Raymond, a Singaporean artist was born with epilepsy. Unable to find a cure, he resorted to traditional massage therapy to help improve his blood circulation, hoping it will calm his nerves. Traditional chinese medicine is widely used among the Chinese in Singapore, which makes up 80 percent of the population, despite the country's modern health care system.
