Aisha Djelal, 73, a berber woman from the Chaouia region, who has facial tattoos, gestures as she sits inside her house in Babar, Algeria October 10, 2015. Djelal was tattooed when she was 25. She wanted to be more attractive than other girls her age. Among the Chaouia people of the Aures mountains, a woman's beauty used to be judged by her tattoos. Traditionally, the more a woman was tattooed the higher she was prized by local men. Some believers have told these Muslim women that by allowing the tattoos they committed a sin according to Islam. To make amends, those who regret having the tattoos give away their treasured silver jewellery to the most deprived women they know. "I've given away all my silver jewellery after turning the offering seven times on my tattoo while I was crying, said Aisha. “I feel like every tear has washed away a bit of my tattoo. REUTERS/Zohra BensemraPICTURE 2 OF 10 FOR WIDER IMAGE STORY "ALGERIA’S TATTOOS OF BEAUTY". Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (C) gestures as he arrives to attend a meeting with the Palestinian leadership following the death of Palestinian minister Ziad Abu Ein, in the West Bank city of Ramallah December 10, 2014. Abu Ein died on Wednesday shortly after an Israeli border policeman shoved and grabbed him by the throat during a protest in the West Bank, an incident Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas described as barbaric. Abu Ein, 55, a minister without portfolio, was among scores of Palestinian and foreign activists who were confronted at an Israeli checkpoint in the occupied Palestinian territory while heading to a demonstration against Jewish settlements. The Israeli military said in a statement it was investigating the circumstances that led to Abu Ein's death. REUTERS/Mohamad Torokman (WEST BANK - Tags: POLITICS CIVIL UNREST)

Protesters demonstrate in front of the Turkish Parliament in Ankara October 2, 2014. The protest was held hours before a debate for MPs to vote on a motion, which would allow the government to authorise cross-border military incursions against Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq, and allow coalition forces to use Turkish territory. The placard (in black) reads, "Occupiers always lose." The shirts read (from L-R), "We are demonstrating against barbarism" and "We are on a hunger strike for the safety of our brothers." Brother Zur (L) and fiancee Edna of Israeli soldier Hadar Goldin are seen during a news conference outside their home in the central Israeli city of Kfar Saba August 2, 2014. Several ceasefires between Israel and the Gaza Strip's dominant Islamist Hamas faction had failed to take hold or quickly collapsed, most recently on Friday after two Israeli soldiers were killed and a third went missing in an ambush. Israel accused Hamas of seizing lieutenant Hadar Goldin and the U.S. blamed the group for a "barbaric" breach of the truce. The UN was more guarded in its censure of Hamas but demanded Goldin's release. Hamas said it did not know what had happened to the soldier but if he was captured, he probably died in Israeli hostilities that followed the ambush.
