A homeless child begs along a street in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in capital Kinshasa June 16, 2013. Youth poverty and unemployment are fuelling criminality in Congo's teeming capital, threatening government efforts to overhaul the decrepit city and attract investment. At least 20,000 children live on the dusty streets, with 350 more joining each month, according to REEJER, an organisation working with vulnerable young people. Picture taken June 16, 2013. South Korea's national figure skater Kim Jin-seo, 16, rests after a training session at the National Training Center in Seoul June 11, 2013. Life as one of the 'Yuna Kids' demands sacrifices few 16-year-olds are willing to make, but for budding South Korean starlets Kim Jin-seo and Kim Hae-jin the chance to learn from the "mother of figure skating" is worth every second of a childhood spent on skates. A boy washes himself with water from a well outside his home in the village of Antebuka located on South Tarawa in the central Pacific island nation of Kiribati May 25, 2013. Kiribati consists of a chain of 33 atolls and islands that stand just metres above sea level, spread over a huge expanse of otherwise empty ocean. With surrounding sea levels rising, Kiribati President Anote Tong has predicted his country will likely become uninhabitable in 30-60 years because of inundation and contamination of its freshwater supplies. Stefan Cristian, a member of Romania's ethnic Roma community, uses traditional tools to handcraft a broom in his home yard in Neajlov village, 30 km southwest of Bucharest June 10, 2013. Stefan and his family produce brooms which they sell for a meagre 7-8 lei (about 1.7 Euros) per piece to the marketplace to eke out a living. Romania, which joined the European Union in 2007 together with Bulgaria, is the second poorest member and is still struggling to recover after a credit bubble boom and bust in 2009. Living standards have barely improved since accession and GDP per capita remains at about one third of the bloc's average. Millions of Romanians fled the country after communism collapsed in 1989 mostly in Italy, France and Spain, countries to which it shares a Latin root language.
