At just 4 feet 9, Simone Biles' petite frame barely reached the ears of Olympic champion Gabby Douglas, when the American team were introduced to the crowd at the gymnastics world championships in Glasgow on Tuesday. Yet it is thanks her lack of height that the pint-sized dynamo is head and shoulders above her rivals and is already being feted as the greatest gymnast to have graced the sport -- even though she has yet to make her Olympic debut. A woman with traditional Turkana scarring sits in a kraal in the disputed area of the Ilemi triangle
A woman with traditional Turkana scarring sits in a kraal in the disputed area of the Ilemi triangle of northwestern Kenya near the borders with Ethiopia and South Sudan October 14, 2013. The Turkana are traditionally nomadic pastoralists, but they have seen the pasture that they need to feed their herds suffer from recurring droughts and many have turned to fishing. However, Lake Turkana is overfished, and scarcity of food and pastureland is fuelling long-standing conflict with Ethiopian indigenous Dhaasanac, who have seen grazing grounds squeezed by large-scale government agricultural schemes in southern Ethiopia. The Dhaasanac now venture ever deeper into Kenyan territory in search of fish and grass, clashing with neighbours. Fighting between the communities has a long history, but the conflict has become ever more fatal as automatic weapons from other regional conflicts seep into the area. While the Turkana region is short of basics like grass and ground-water, it contains other resources including oil reserves and massive, newly discovered underground aquifers. A farmer carries rice on her shoulder while walking past a rice processing machine on a road in Ngai Cau village, outside Hanoi October 26, 2011. Flooding in Thailand all but paralysed the rice trade this week and delays to shipments are likely to continue, giving would-be buyers even more incentive to turn to India, which has returned to the export market and offers far lower prices. In Vietnam, the second-biggest exporter, prices were barely changed this week in thin trade. REUTERS/Kham (VIETNAM - Tags: BUSINESS AGRICULTURE FOOD)
