Gone are the beehive hairstyles, calico dresses and overalls, along with the genuine flavor of country music. So say disillusioned fans longing for the twang of the past. During the 1999 Country Music Association Awards, revelers ate and danced to the sounds of rock, pop and Tejano music blaring into large white tents set up along Nashville's "Music Row," home to the city's country record labels. "Country music always has ebbed and flowed, but it's in a rut right now," said a leader of an organization of country music fan clubs.
