Jamie Neal and Garrett Hand (L), a young Californian couple who were reported to be missing and feared kidnapped while on a cycling trip through Peru, laugh as they speak to the media at a conference in Lima March 1, 2013. The couple from Oakland, California, embarked on an open-ended bicycle tour of South America in late November last year. Relatives said that after hearing from the couple regularly, all communication from the pair stopped on January 25, along with activity on their bank accounts. At the time, the couple were travelling to Lima from Cusco, a mountainous region near the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu, where U.S. tourists were recently advised of kidnapping risks linked to a turf war between government forces and Maoist Shining Path rebels. Peruvian officials launched a search for Neal and Hand shortly after they were reported missing and announced on Tuesday that the couple were found safe in Angoteros, Peru, on a boat up the Napo River headed for Ecuador. A boy rides his bicycle on the bike path opposite Le Port De Plaisance de Lachine, a marina in Montreal, Quebec, October 4, 2012. There are no good statistics on just how many boomers are taking retirement on the road. But some indicators - steadily rising traffic at houseboat and recreational vehicle websites, and a growing number of retirement-age members on couchsurfing.com - confirm the trend.
