A prostitute waits for customers near a sign that says "special seating area for women" in the Dolly district of Surabaya March 24, 2014. Tri Rismaharini, the celebrated mayor of Indonesia's second-largest city of Surabaya, has revamped its parks, kickstarted its port development and given free health and education to its poor. But one big challenge remains: shutting down Dolly, a brothel complex established in the 1970s in what is now central Surabaya. Picture taken March 24. Prostitutes Mary and Jill (L) pose on a bed at the "GeizHaus" brothel in the northern German town of Hamburg April 16, 2009. It did not take long for the world's latest economic crisis to have a trickle-down effect on the world's oldest profession in Germany. But in one of the few countries where prostitution is legal -- and thus extraordinarily transparent -- the industry has responded with a special stimulus package of its own: modern marketing tools, rebates and gimmicks to boost flagging demand. A prostitute walks down a corridor at the infamous brothel 'Hotel Luxor' at the Reeperbahn red-light district in Hamburg March 18, 2008. The owner of Hamburg's oldest and only family-run brothel, in the heart of Germany's most famous red-light district, has decided to shut down her business after 22 years and retire after a sharp decline in business. "It's time to go," Waltraud Mehrer told Reuters."It's a pity, but business just isn't what it used to be. The bar and rooms inside give an impression of the brothel's former glory, with dark wooden panelling on the ceiling, soft lighting and a retro style bar. But these days the Luxor looks dated. Its lack of neon lights and flashy pictures gives it drab appearance on the outside. Picture taken March 18. TO ACCOMPANY FEATURE GERMANY-BROTHEL/ REUTERS/Christian Charisius (GERMANY)

A CERTIFICATE FOR A BROTHEL IN HALLE PROOFS THE AUTHENTICITY OF A NATIONAL FLAG FORMERLY USED ON THE BERLIN REICHSTAG. A certificate for Christine Schmittroth, a manageress of the X-Carree bordello in the eastern German city of Halle proofs the authenticity of a German national flag formerly used on the roof of the Berlin reichstag building on June 21, 2004. The German flag which once adorned the heights of the country's Reichstag parliament building was acquired by the brothel after outbidding competitors for it in the first ever online auction of its sort, organised by Germany's cash-strapped government. Christine Schmittroth (C), manageress of the X-Carree bordello displays a certificate for a German national flag formerly adorning the lower house of parliament in Berlin together with Janine (R) and Juliane in the eastern German city of Halle June 21, 2004. Australian stock market investors enthusiastically plunged into the
world's oldest profession when the country's largest brothel was
listed, with the stock soaring 75 cents in the first minute of trade, a
hefty 50 percent premium to its 50 cent float price in an otherwise

Former "Hollywood Madam" Heidi Fleiss is pictured in this August 1, 1994 file photo. Fleiss, whose previous career running a call-girl ring landed her in prison, is returning to the world's oldest profession -- to open a Nevada brothel catering to women, she said November 17, 2005. Fleiss said that she has struck a deal with a licensed brothel owner in Nevada, where prostitution is legal, to turn one of his three establishments, the Cherry Patch, into a glitzy new bordello that she will rename "Heidi Fleiss' Stud Farm."
