Parking valet Bo Hagstrom of Sweden poses near a Rolls Royce classic automobile in front of the Casino de Monte Carlo in Monaco April 9, 2014. The luxurious Casino de Monte Carlo welcomes thousands of visitors every year to try their luck in its grand Belle Epoque gaming rooms. The casino was inaugurated in 1863 and its late nineteenth century architecture inspired novelist Ian Fleming's casino in his first James Bond spy novel, "Casino Royale". The casino and Monte Carlo were featured in the James Bond movies "Never Say Never Again" and "GoldenEye". Perched above the Mediterranean and bounded by the French and Italian coastlines on either side, Monaco is the world's smallest independent state after the Vatican City. Picture taken April 9, 2014. People pay a lot of money to visit the Caribbean island that has been mostly off limits the past half century even though it is just 90 miles (145 km) from Florida. A four-day trip to Havana for two costs nearly $5,000, not including airfare, but the forbidden fruit aspect of Cuba is a big draw, said Edward Piegza, who led the first trip for his San Diego, California-based travel company Classic Journeys. Tourists from other parts of the world, mostly Canada and Europe, freely visit the island for its beaches, vintage American cars and Spanish colonial architecture. Picture taken May 21, 2013. China's richest citizens are even wealthier than the statistics suggest, and may hold as much as 9.3 trillion yuan (US$1.4 trillion) of hidden assets, according to a Credit Suisse-sponsored study by a top economic think-tank. And nearly two thirds of that unreported income goes into the pockets of the richest 10 percent, widening China's already troubling wealth gap, said Wang Xiaolu, the economist at the China Society of Economic Reform (CSER), who headed the survey. A man walks past the Romanian Athenaeum, venue of the biennial Enescu Festival, in Bucharest September 24, 2009. To the astonishment of audiences and musicians alike, one of the poorest countries in the European Union spends some 7 million euros ($10.18 million) every two years to stage one of the world's most lavish classical music festivals. Founded in 1958 following the death in 1955 of Romania's most famous composer, George Enescu, the biennial festival is now an attempt to make the world see Romania in a new light.
