A worker touches up part of a replica of Rome's ancient Coliseum, constructed from around 10 million used aluminium cans, in Rome January 12, 2001. Volunteers from blood and organ donation groups, who built the replica, hope to make it into the Guinness Book of Records. The structure will be torn down in February and the aluminium auctioned off with the proceeds going to raise money for ad campaigns on blood and organ donations.

A visitor looks at a replica of Rome's ancient Coliseum constructed from around 10 million used aluminium cans in Rome January 12, 2001. Volunteers from blood and organ donation groups, who built the replica, hope to make it into the Guinness Book of Records. The structure will be torn down in February and the aluminium auctioned off with the proceeds going to raise money for ad campaigns on blood and organ donations.

To celebrate the 54th anniversary of Italy's birth as a republic, the Italian armed forces marched for hours on the same road where Allied forces paraded in triumph after liberating Rome from Nazi occupation in 1944.
