To accompany Irish-Policing.
A file photograph dated September 10, 2004 shows a mural on the Falls Road area of west Belfast. In 1973, Catholic guerrilla Gerry Kelly was part of a Northern Irish republican bombing team who attacked London's Old Bailey courthouse. And if this week's talks on the future of Northern Ireland's stalled local government result in a new deal between rival Protestant and Catholic politicians, he just might become the British-ruled province's minister for policing. Mistrust of the largely Protestant police in Catholic neighbourhoods has historically been the main justification for the rough justice the IRA (Irish Republican Army) continues to mete out to "anti-social" elements in its working class heartlands.
