Patients rest at the HCA Day Care Centre in Singapore
Patients Chung Kong Tuck (L), 72, and Wong Hong Jee, 85, rest at the HCA Day Care Centre in Singapore September 19, 2007. Every week, around 50 elderly terminally ill patients spend the day at the centre, where they participate in rehabilitative and social activities such as singing, arts & crafts and pet therapy. Providing healthcare and eldercare services for older Singaporeans is a major objective by a government committee set up to prepare for an ageing society. According to a 2006 report by the committee, by 2030 the number of Singapore residents aged 65 and older will multiply threefold from 300,000 to 900,000, or one in every five residents.
