Former star magistrate Antonio Di Pietro celebrates at his party headquarters after he won a crushing victory in a by-election for the upper house of parliament (Senate) November 9. Di Pietro, who became a folk hero for his anti-corruption crusade in Milan's famous Clean Hands pool of graft-busting prosecutors of the early 1990's, won 67.75 percent of the vote in the central Tuscan constituency of Mugello.
