A view of the departure lounge is seen from a former passport office in the abandoned Nicosia International Airport in the Nicosia District of Cyprus March 10, 2014. The airport which was subject to heavy fighting between Greek Cypriot and Turkish troops during the 1974 conflict has not been used since the ceasefire. This year marks 40 years since the Cyprus National Guard staged a coup in Cyprus and the subsequent Turkish military intervention, which escalated a civil war between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities on the island. After the ceasefire, a heavily restricted United Nations (U.N.) controlled buffer zone between the north and south of the island was put into operation. It stretches 180 km (112 miles) across the whole island measuring 7.4 km (4.6 miles) at its widest and 3.3 m (11 feet) at its narrowest point. It is restricted to the general public and no Greek or Turkish Cypriots are allowed inside. Picture taken March 10, 2014. REUTERS/Neil Hall (CYPRUS - Tags: POLITICS SOCIETY ANNIVERSARY TRANSPORT)

The passenger departure area is seen at the abandoned Nicosia International Airport near Nicosia March 10, 2014. Greek and Turkish Cypriots have lived estranged for decades. A power-sharing government crumbled soon after independence from Britain in 1960 and the island has been divided since a Greek Cypriot coup was followed by a Turkish invasion of the north in 1974. Four decades on, a United Nations-controlled buffer zone splits Cyprus east to west, with Cyprus's ethnic Greeks living in the south, and its Turks in the north. The buffer zone still contains crumbling relics of times gone by - abandoned houses, businesses and even an airport. Picture taken March 10, 2014. Passengers wait for their flight in the domestic airport in Yangon October 2, 2013. In the 1950s, Yangon, then known as Rangoon, was Southeast Asia's aviation hub. But after the military seized power in 1962, civilian aviation entered a long decline. International isolation made it hard to deal directly with manufacturers, import equipment, train staff or finance infrastructure. Some of those problems were lifted with the end of European Union sanctions this year. The United States has suspended sanctions, but not ended them entirely. Picture taken October 2, 2013. Customs counters and the departure lounge are seen inside a business jet terminal, invested by Deer Jet of Hainan Airline Group, first Chinese business jet operator, at Shenzhen Bao An International Airport in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen July 20, 2012. Bombardier Inc, the world's No. 3 aircraft maker, thinks Chinese executive jet buyers will take delivery of 2,400 new planes in the next 20 years. All China needs now is pilots to fly them, mechanics to fix them, and airports to land them. With fewer than 200 private jets for a population of 1.3 billion people, China's growth potential is huge. But reams of red tape, snarled-up air space and a shortage of trained pilots suggest it won't live up to the promise any time soon. Picture taken July 20, 2012. A fishing boat lies on the beach in the center of Iqaluit, capital of the Canadian Arctic territory of Nunavut, June 14, 2011. Nunavut?s isolation means firms will find it tough to exploit the territory?s mineral reserves. Nunavut has no major ports and only one public road of any length. The departure lounge at Iqaluit's tiny airport is basically a large room and when three flights leave at the same time, as they do most afternoons, the result is mildly chaotic. A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 plane is seen from the departure hall at the Hong Kong International Airport June 2, 2011. Airport Authority Hong Kong, which operates the region's busiest airport, said on Thursday that it will consult the public on a development plan for the airport that includes an option to add a third runway. The new runway is estimated to have an investment cost of HK$136.2 billion ($17.5 billion) by the time the project is completed, factoring in inflation. The cost was estimated at HK$86.2 billion in 2010. REUTERS/Bobby Yip (CHINA - Tags: TRANSPORT BUSINESS)
