The tide comes in as the sun sets on the seafront in Scarborough
The tide comes in as the sun sets on the seafront in Scarborough, northern England February 26, 2013. Scarborough is not far from Whitby, once a busy fishing port, is now a shadow of its former self. Only 200 people are now employed in fishing, and the fleet is down to just a few boats. Global warming has expanded fish habitats northwards, with fish stocks sometimes disappearing for weeks on end. Boats return from sea with largely empty nets, and the atmosphere is sour. Often schools of fish then reappear unpredictably, resulting in bumper catches and causing much jubilation - but then E.U. quotas kick in and force fishermen to dump excess catch in the sea to avoid hefty E.U. Fines. Picture taken February 26, 2013. REUTERS/Dylan Martinez (BRITAIN - Tags: SOCIETY ENVIRONMENT BUSINESS EMPLOYMENT ANIMALS MARITIME FOOD)

Spanish banks are a little jauntier after a dose of European cash to purge them of their toxic real estate assets, but their refinancing of moribund companies in other sectors could put them back in the emergency room. Whether out of optimism or desperation, Spanish banks have refinanced billions of euros of debt owed by struggling companies large and small, including property-related firms, to prevent them going bust and avoid writing down the loans while they wait for economic recovery, financial sources said. A cat rests in hallway of a deteriorating colonial era building in central Yangon April 12, 2012. Myanmar, also known as Burma, was a British colony until winning its independence in 1948 thanks to the late national hero General Aung San, the father of democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi. Yangon, also known as Rangoon, was the capital of British Burma and a major port between Calcutta and Singapore. It owes its current appearance to British planners, with streets laid out in a grid, interspersed with churches, temples and grand but neglected municipal buildings. A wagon and well are shown on the Hualapai Indian Reservation, Arizona February 28, 2012. The tiny Hualapai nation, in a bold move that could serve as a test of the limits of the sovereign power of Native American tribes over non-members, exercised its right of eminent domain last month to take over the management of the site and kick out the non-Indian developer. The dispute over the potentially lucrative Skywalk -- which all agree could draw up to 3,000 visitors a day -- pits the tribe's sovereign rights over a site it sees as its economic lifeblood against a developer's contractual right to manage the attraction for 25 years and share the profits.
