Kim Bok-soon poses during an interview with Reuters at her home in Seoul October 14, 2014. In South Korea, where physical perfection is seen as a way to improve the quality of life, including job and marriage prospects, plastic surgery procedures can seem as commonplace as haircuts. Kim's doctor said he could turn her into a celebrity lookalike, and Kim decided to take the plunge, taking loans and spending 30 million won ($28,000) for 15 surgeries on her face over the course of a day. When the bandages came off and she looked in the mirror, she knew something had gone horribly wrong. Only later did Kim find out her doctor was not a plastic surgery specialist. Former garment factory worker Channa Prak (L), 20, who is an acid attack victim passes the time at a secure shelter run by non-profit organisation "Cambodia Acid Survivors Charity" outside Phnom Penh July 7, 2010. Prak, who was attacked by unknown perpetrators over what she said was a love affair, is receiving shelter and medical treatment at the centre. After years of indifference to a rise in acid attacks across Cambodia, authorities are drafting up legislation to restrict acid sales and to punish perpetrators. The move comes as Cambodia seeks to tidy up its reputation for human rights abuses, rampant corruption, and lax law enforcement, some of many factors that have deterred foreign investors. Oral cancer patient Lu Wen-jhong (L), 57, speaks to his counsellor Chao Yu-ning from the Sunshine Foundation before a consultation session at the Chang Geng Hospital in Linkou, Taipei May 14, 2010. Lu has been unable to eat any solid food for months after his operation as he is unable to open his mouth wide enough to chew. The doctor later told him that this condition is not operable and the only way to face it is through rehabilitation. Close to half of oral cancer patients will need to undergo ablative surgery which will result in facial disfigurement that causes speech impairment and oral secretions management difficulties.
