An official of Romania's Waters Authority checks the quality of the water taken from the Danube river at a laboratory in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, 340km (208 miles) west of Bucharest, October 9, 2010. Romania is monitoring water from the river after about one million cubic metres of a toxic red sludge leaked out of an alumina plant reservoir in Hungary earlier this week, killing seven people, injuring 123 and fouling some rivers including a local branch of the Danube.
