Protesters throw stones during clashes with police in Kiev February 18, 2014. Anti-government protesters clashed violently with police in central Kiev on Tuesday, a day after Moscow moved to cement its influence over Ukraine with $2 billion in cash to shore up the former Soviet state's heavily indebted economy. Street cleaners from the Akhdam community collect garbage in Yemen's southwestern city of Taiz October 10, 2012. Yemeni Akhdam, or servants, are similar to hereditary castes, but are distinguished by their African features and the menial jobs they perform. Widespread prejudice places the Akhdam at the bottom of Yemen's social ladder. Asked about the origins of the Akhdam, Yemenis say they are descendants of Ethiopians who crossed the Red Sea to conquer Yemen before the arrival of Islam some 1,400 years ago - making them outsiders in their own country. Most live in slum areas in the outskirts of the capital Sanaa and other main cities. They reside in small huts haphazardly built of wood and cloth, without basic services such as running water, electricity and sewage networks. Picture taken October 10, 2012. Trucks with garbage are parked at the Nezahualcoyotl dump site in Mexico City February 6, 2009. One of the world's biggest landfills, the Nezahualcoyotl dump site is a fifth the size of Manhattan and sits inside the urban sprawl of the fast-growing Mexican capital. Chefs from a local restaurant empty rubbish into a bin on the back of a tricycle on a main street in central Beijing October 20, 2008. Almost all bins in Beijing on the streets and in housing complexes are separated into recyclable and non-recyclable compartments, but public awareness is still relatively low so they are often filled with a mix of all kinds of rubbish. The Beijing city municipal administration commission says 88 percent of waste goes to landfills. REUTERS/David Gray (CHINA)

A rubbish collector pedals his tricycle loaded with cardboard and plastic bottles to a recycling centre located near the northern outskirts of Beijing June 30, 2008. A relentless campaign by Beijing to present a sanitised, modern city to millions of Olympic Games visitors has led to a government shut down of scores of garbage recycling centres that provide these migrant workers with an income. As the Olympic Games approach, the number of garbage pickers has visibly dropped across Beijing. Picture taken June 30, 2008.
