An anti-government student takes a bite out of his lunch, drawing the envious gaze of hungry soldiers during a break between facing off at Jakarta's Proclamation Monument November 11, the place which marks the birthplace of the Indonesian nation. Hundreds of riot police and soldiers prevented up to 4,000 of the protesters from nearing a four-day special meeting of the Peoples' Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the parliament which is gathering to map out economic and political reform for the country.

Supporters of Gen. Augusto Pinochet display signs during a protest outside the residence of the Spanish ambassador in Santiago, October 19. Former leader Gen. Augusto Pinochet was arrested in London October 17 while on a visit to Great Britain for medical treatment and is being held under armed guard at The Clinic in London following an appeal for his extradition to Spain to face charges of genocide and torture. Spanish judge Baltasar Garzon, who has been investigating the disappearance of Spaniards during the Chilean dictatorship passed on a formal request to British authorities via Interpol to question the former dictator. The signs read: "Let him go" and "You are just envious because we have a real King.
