Workers for special cleaning put garbage into a plastic bags at a garbage-filled flat in Tokyo March 20, 2015 where a body of 85 year-old man was left for over a month. In rapidly ageing Japan, more people are dying alone and unnoticed. Specialist clean-up crews are on hand to cleanse "lonely death" apartments once their passing is spotted, including placing incense and flowers. In March, the body of a man in his 80s was found on the floor of his apartment in Tokyo. He had been dead for a month. The family didn't visit and the only reason for the body's discovery was the slight smell that troubled the downstairs neighbour. In a country where around 5 million elderly people live alone, the number of decaying bodies found in empty homes is expected to soar. REUTERS/Toru Hanai

Decontamination workers wearing protective suits and masks, remove radiated soil and leaves from a forest in Tomioka town, Fukushima prefecture, near Tokyo Electric Power Co's (TEPCO) tsunami-crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant February 24, 2015. Many residents of Okuma, a village near the stricken Fukushima Daiichi plant, are angry about government plans to dump some 30 million tons of radioactive debris raked up after the March 2011 nuclear disaster in a sprawling waste complex on their doorstep. Few believe Tokyo's assurances that the site will be cleaned up and shut down after 30 years. In the four years since the disaster, Japan has allocated over $15 billion to lower radiation levels around the plant. Every day, teams of workers blast roads with water, scrub down houses, cut branches and scrape contaminated soil off farmland. That radiated trash now sits in plastic sacks across the region, piling up in abandoned rice paddies, parking lots and even residents' backyards. Environmental activist Fedelis Oguru, who filed a suit with the support of Friends of Earth international in a court against Shell oil company in Netherlands, sits for portrait photograph in his home in Oruma village, Ogbia district in Nigeria's Bayelsa state, March 1, 2015. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan's flagship reform policies -- power and farming -- have not hugely benefited the delta. Power privatisation has yet to translate to more kilowatts on the grid anywhere, while reforms to farming, especially cutting corrupt middle men out of a state fertiliser scheme, has disproportionately benefited the north, where the vast majority of agriculture happens. Even so, the mere fact the president is from the delta is enough for many to feel historic injustices are being righted. Picture taken March 1, 2015. Veterinarians prepare Tango, an eleven-year-old male jaguar, for a full medical examination at the Buenos Aires Zoo October 27, 2014. Argentina's rare jaguar was added to Buenos Aires Zoo's DNA bank on Monday as conservationists step up efforts to save the big cat species that is on the brink of extinction. The 11-year-old jaguar called Tango could be the key to preserving the species for future generations. At the zoo's Biotechnology Reproduction Lab, vets took blood, hair and semen samples from Tango to be stored. REUTERS/Enrique Marcarian (ARGENTINA - Tags: ANIMALS SOCIETY)

David Hackenberg, 65, a beekeeper or apiarist, puts on a bee suite after taking a break between collecting bee hives after they completed pollinating a blueberry field near Jonesboro, Maine June 24, 2014. Over recent years, bees have been dying at a rate the U.S. government says is economically unsustainable. Honey bees pollinate plants that produce about a quarter of the food consumed by Americans, including apples, watermelons and beans. A lawsuit has now been filed by environmental groups in the United States seeking an injunction restricting the approval of a controversial class of pesticides known as neonicotinoids, or 'neonics'. These pesticides have become a subject of scrutiny in Europe and the United States as concern has mounted that they harm honeybees and other pollinators. Picture taken June 24, 2014. Japan approved on October 30, 2013 a plan by TEPCO to extract thousands of nuclear fuel rods from the fuel pool of the No. 4 reactor of the Fukushima Daiichi plant. Containing radiation equivalent to 14,000 times the amount released in the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima 68 years ago, more than 1,300 used fuel rod assemblies packed tightly together need to be removed from a building that is vulnerable to collapse, should another large earthquake hit the area.
