Anniversary: Hong Kong: 20 years since the end of British rule
Falun Gong followers meditate in Hong Kong, May 9, 2001. Members of the spiritual movement have over the years protested in Hong Kong after Beijing banned the group on the mainland in 1999, declaring it a "cult". While largely tolerated in Hong Kong, 16 members were convicted in 2002 for protesting outside Beijing's liaison office in the territory. Eight of those convictions were later overturned by Hong Kong's highest court. REUTERS/Kin Cheung/File photo SEARCH "HONGKONG TIMELINE" FOR THIS STORY. SEARCH "WIDER IMAGE" FOR ALL STORIES.

Miss World Canada Anastasia Lin speaks to a reporter while sitting with her crown after an interview at her home in Toronto, Ontario November 10, 2015. Canada's China-born Miss World contestant said on Tuesday her visa to travel to the beauty pageant at a Chinese resort has been delayed and her father has been harassed by Chinese officials because she has spoken out about human rights abuses in the communist country. Anastasia Lin, an actress and Falun Gong practitioner crowned Miss World Canada in May, said her determination to speak out about Chinese abuse of human rights may cost her a chance to attend the Dec. 19 contest final in Sanya, China.
