Don V Volkerding, Melissa Leavy, Greg Gmerek pose during an event commemorating the 40th anniversary...
Don V Volkerding (L), who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada and Melissa Leavy of South Salem, New York pose together with Greg Gmerek who was a Vietnam war air medic as they hold a piece of wreckage from the 1975 crash near Saigon Vietnam, of a C5-A Galaxy cargo plane that they all survived, during an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of what was known as "Operation BabyLift" at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans War Memorial in Holmdel, New Jersey April 25, 2015. Volkerding and Leavy were both infant Vietnamese orphans being evacuated and Gmerek a medical crew member on the C5-A, which was the first flight in 1975 of "Operation Babylift". As the Viet Cong closed in on Saigon in April 1975, U.S. President Gerald Ford authorized a series of flights that evacuated nearly 3,000 orphans to the United Sates and other countries before the city was overtaken. The last flight of "Operation Babylift" was on April 25, 1975. Neither Volkerding or Leavy have ever been back to Vietnam. Picture taken April 25, 2015. REUTERS/Mike Segar
