French matador Sebastian Castella puts his montera before a bullfight at the Real Maestranza bullring in the Andalusian capital of Seville, southern Spain April 7, 2016. At the Real Maestranza arena the crowd enjoys a tradition that dates back over a thousand years. Wearing an embroidered gold and white outfit and wielding a long thin sword, the matador taunts the 600-kilo bull with his cape, dodging its horns again and again. Despite the full stands at the bullring, which hosted its first fight in 1761, the sport attracts an increasingly slim audience, as new generations shun what they see as a cruel and unfair fight. Matadors say those who oppose bullfighting don't understand the bullring's intimacy or the artistry of the fight. To finish off the bout, matadors deliver the "estocada," a deft strike through the bull's shoulder blades to pierce its heart. REUTERS/Marcelo del Pozo SEARCH "EL MATADOR" FOR THIS STORY. Reuters photographers have worked not only to capture the thrills and spills on the roads and mountain passes. They have also shot a set of pictures showing their own quirky view from behind the scenes as they travelled through the Netherlands, Belgium and France. REUTERS/Stefano Rellandini

Nino, a ten-year-old toreador apprentice of the Nimes bullfighting school, nicknamed El Nino, holds a set of horns during a course at the bullring of Garons, near Nimes, September 25, 2013. Since 1983, the French Tauromachy Centre in Nimes has trained some 1,000 youths in the art of bullfighting. Twenty of them have gone on to become professional matadors, facing fighting bulls in the arena. Twice a week, students take courses with a matador to learn the movements and gestures of the bullfighter in the ring, but without an animal present. Students train with calves in the surrounding fields during spring, and regularly participate in beginner's bullfights (becerradas) without killing calves. Solal has been taking courses for three years and Nino, for just a year now. Both are normally enrolled in French public schools, but have one thought in mind - bullfighting. They share a passion linked to the city of Nimes, famous for its ferias and bullring. REUTERS/Jean-Paul Pelissier (FRANCE - Tags: EDUCATION SOCIETY ANIMALS)

View from a window of the 59 Rivoli aftersquat during the inauguration of its new facade in Paris May 8, 2013. A hub of counterculture and one of Paris' most visited centres of contemporary art, the 59 Rivoli aftersquat houses 30 workshops on six floors where the public can freely view international artists in the throes of the creative process. Originally a grand branch of Credit Lyonnais bank at No 59 rue de Rivoli, the building lay abandoned for 15 years before being squatted in 1999 by a collective of artists. A deal with current Parisian mayor saw the building bought by the city and rented back to ten visiting creatives and twenty permanent artists, a deal that officials now want to change. The residents are keen to put up a fight against proposals to alter a system they believe is a global example of compromise between squatters and city officials. Picture taken May 8, 2013.
