A GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL PRESENTS A NEW POST STAMP IN SOFIA.
A Bulgarian government official presents a new post stamp, marking the
60th anniversary of the salvation of 50,000 Bulgarian Jews from the
Nazis during World War II, March 10, 2003. Dimitar Peshev (R) vice
president of the Bulgaria parliament, publisized a secret deal for
deportation of Jews, forcing temporary cancellation of the order.
Peshev galvanized 42 fellow legislators to sign a protest petition to
the king. With his help and the protests of Orthodox churchleaders,
such as Ekzarch Stefan the First (L) Bulgaria saved from deportation to
