Liquor store manger Ally Dykes kneels amongst the wine bottles that were thrown from their shelves after Thursday's earthquake in Gisborne December 21, 2007. A series of aftershocks rattled the New Zealand city of Gisborne on Friday as officials assessed damage caused by the country's strongest earthquake in 20 years, which injured several people. The 6.8 magnitude quake struck the city on the east coast of the country's North Island just before 9 p.m. on Thursday (0800 GMT), sending people to higher ground and disrupting power, phone and water services.

ELEPHANT SEAL TAKEN UP RESIDENCE IN GISBORNE.
Homer, a teenage elephant seal, basks in shallow waters on a boat ramp in Gisborne harbour where he has taken up residence April 11. The two ton elephant seal has attempted to climb into cars parked near the port's boat ramp and has already destroyed a rubbish bin down near the ramp and became something of a traffic hazard for locals at the popular seaside town on the east coast of the North Island.
