FILE PHOTO OF FORMER AUSTRALIAN DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER TIM FISCHER IN DILI.
FILE PHOTO 30AUG99 - Former Australian deputy prime minister Tim Fischer, seen in this August 30 file photo, assists an East Timorese at a polling station in Dili. Fischer, in East Timor as an election observer, said August 31 that three United Nations staff have been killed in Gleno which was besieged by militiamen opposed to independence for the territory. The United Nations said it was unable to confirm the deaths. The siege of the town has ended and a convoy with 150 UN workers has managed to leave Gleno for Dili.
