The Wider Image: Women at work around the world
Yanis Reina, 30, a gas station attendant, poses for a photograph at a gas station in Caracas, Venezuela February 24, 2017. "No doubt this is a job initially intended for men, because you have to be standing on the street all your shift, it is dirty, greasy and there is always a strong gasoline smell. I have to adapt the pants of my uniform because they are men's and make me look weird but I adore my work. My clients are like my relatives, they come here everyday and we chat a couple of minutes while the tank is being filled. They come every day because they feel safer to be served by a woman," Reina said. "With the difficult situation that we have in Venezuela, having a job that covers your expenses is almost a luxury, but beyond that, I'm very proud of my job. I believe that now we, the women, have to be the warriors," Reina said. REUTERS/Carlos Garcia Rawlins SEARCH "WOMEN WORK" FOR THIS STORY. SEARCH "WIDER IMAGE" FOR ALL STORIES.

The Russian ship Oleg Naydenov, carrying 1,409 tonnes of fuel oil, caught fire in Las Palmas port and authorities towed it out to sea where it sank offshore last April 14, 2015 around 15 nautical miles south of Gran Canaria. Fish and chips are seen in a sea front cafe in Blackpool, northern England September 8, 2013. British beach resorts, which flourished in the 19th century and earlier, have tempted tourists for years with amusement arcades, fairground rides and cheap and cheerful souvenirs. However, as a 2013 report by the Centre for Social Justice states, many seaside towns suffered as from the 1970s it became cheaper and easier for British tourists to travel abroad. Now, according to the Office for National Statistics, larger seaside towns in England suffer from higher-than-average levels of deprivation compared to the rest of the country. Nevertheless, they do continue to attract holiday makers. Picture taken September 8, 2013. REUTERS/Phil Noble (BRITAIN - Tags: SOCIETY TRAVEL)

A local village government worker starts collecting debris on the oil slick-affected coast in Cordova, Cebu in central Philippines August 19, 2013. The central Philippine province of Cebu, famous among divers around the world for its clear waters and coral reefs, declared a state of calamity on Monday as an oil slick from a ferry that sank late last week spread to about 20 percent of the coast. The 40-year-old ferry owned by 2GO Group Inc sank about a kilometre offshore on Friday after a collision with a cargo vessel. At least 52 people were killed and 68 were still missing, officials said. Fishermen are seen around their catch of blue crabs at Maracaibo's lake costal town of Barranquitas July 21, 2011. Blue crabs caught on the edge of Lake Maracaibo will be processed and shipped to seafood restaurants in Maryland and New York where they are considered a delicacy. But scientists and fishermen in the state of Zulia in northwestern Venezuela worry that the crabs may not be safe for consumption due to greasy oil stains covering their shells. Hence fishermen often sell the crabs to local middlemen who then send the product to one of the 19 processing plants in the area, where hundreds of staff are hired to separate the meat before it makes its way to the dining tables of U.S. restaurants. Workers pack blue crab meat for export at the coastal town of San Francisco, Lake Maracaibo July 22, 2011. Venezuelan fishermen inspect their catch of blue crabs on the edge of Lake Maracaibo, concerned about the greasy oil stains covering their shells, where they will be processed and shipped to seafood restaurants in Maryland and New York where they are considered a delicacy. But scientists and fishermen in the state of Zulia in northwestern Venezuela worry that the crabs may not be safe for consumption. Pollution in Lake Maracaibo has been a problem for decades. In recent weeks the area has been blighted by several leaks from tangled pipes, corroding pumps and other oil installations that crisscross the lake. To match Reuters Life!
