Californian engineer Paul Moller has spent a lifetime and at least $50 million developing his invention the Skycar. The Skycar works much like a Harrier jump jet with vertical take off, hover and then straight-line flight. Moller says the craft could carry up to four passengers, stay aloft for five hours and have an average speed of 300 miles per hour.

The Marines, who are on nearby HMS Ocean, will replace the Paratroopers during the troubled times in the West African country. Secretary-General Kofi Annan proposed on Monday strengthening the rebel-battered U.N. peacekeeping force in Sierra Leone to 16,500 from an authorised 13,000, and said it might have to be raised even further.
