Promotional representative Rio Hirai holds up Communication Robot BN-1 designed by Japan's leading toy manufacturer Bandai Co Ltd at an unveiling in Tokyo March 13. Bandai said it will launch the new cat-like robot pet this autumn that responds when patted, and changes eye expression to show emotion. The robot pet, which is equipped with artificial intelligence and eight different sensors, can jump over obstacles, turn head over heels, and pretend to be dead. [The 22cm, 780gram product will be sold for 50,000 yen ($470) in Japan, well below Sony Corp's 250,000 yen AIBO robot pet released last June].
